FAQ

What is Text to Speech(TTS) technology?

Text to Speech technology reads aloud digital text—the words on computers, smartphones and tablets. TTS helps people with learning disabilities improve their reading comprehension.

How does the ReadAloud widget work?

The ReadAloud widget appears at the top your posts as a button labeled “Listen to this article”. When clicked, the button is replaced by an audio player that plays back the synthesized speech of your article’s content.

How much does it cost?

We provide a free plan for customers with small websites and low traffic. Beyond a level of usage, you will be asked to upgrade to a Pay-As-You-Go plan, which is billed based on the number of characters of text synthesized and the number of listens per month.

How many websites can I install the widget on?

You can install the widget on any number of websites you own. Billing is cumulative across all the websites for your account.

How do my website visitors use the widget? Do they need to install anything?

Users simply click on the “Listen to this article” button to start listening right inside the browser, no software download required.

Which devices and browsers are supported?

All device types including desktop, mobile, and tablet devices are supported.

What languages are supported?

The widget supports more than 25 languages, including English, Spanish, French, German, Hindi, Chinese Mandarin, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Japanese, and Arabic.

Where should the Listen button be placed on a website?

We recommend placing the widget at the top of articles or in a visible place above the fold in the content.

Does ReadAloud collect or sell my website users’ data?

No, the widget does not collect user data from the websites it is installed on.

Can I cancel my account?

You can cancel any time by contacting us via the contact form on our main website.

I'm not a techie, just a "user-type," so when a reader asked me to add text-to-voice capability to my blog, it was intimidating. However, I tackled the challenge. I searched around, found one that I tried and ... it was scary what it ended up doing! So, I tried again and came across SiteSpeaker. I found this plug-in super simple to figure out and add to posts (FYI #1 ... Just add a "Short Code" block into your post and cut and paste the code that Site Speaker provides when you set up an account ... which is free). I found a voice that is perfect for the content of my blog. Diction and pacing are excellent. I had what I thought was a technical issue and within a couple of hours (on a Sunday!), I had an answer explaining why this happened (FTI #2 ... it takes 30 min. for the plug-in to refresh its cache, so if you make a change to your post's text, it won't be reflected in the text-to-voice version for 30 min. ... quite manageable). Thanks!

This team should be a prime example of great support service! Would like to commend the support person who helped me but I didn't get the name, unfortunately. You are awesome! The plugin works and is easy to set up, sounds amazing, and shows up in the right place! Great product/project keep up the good work.

I've tested every speech-to-text plugin I could find, but there were always one problem or the other. And then I found this delightful critter that just worked beautifully from the start. It's also an attractive addition to my posts. Great stuff, guys!
